About "On The Sunny Side"
The moment after I completed "Bak On Yuu,” God gave me the idea for this album . At the time this album was created, I had recently decided to focus my talent primarily on making Christian music. The same week “Bak On Yuu” was created, B-Hamp (aka Mr. Ricky Bobby) planned on coming over to get some beats. Knowing he would like “Bak On Yuu,” I quickly finished the beat so he could write to it...Things changed... The day before he came over, I was listening to the final product and thought, 'I don't need any rappers in my music...I could release an album that's mainly instrumental with a couple of vocalists.' Also, I remembered the numerous occasions where people told me that they liked listening to my beats because they sounded great without vocals. As I kept listening to the final product of “Bak On Yuu,” the ideas continued to flow. Since I wasn't going to use rappers to convey the messages that I wanted to share, I needed to find another way to let the audience know what each song meant. Some of us get to a point in our lives where we feel like something is missing. Others might feel like there must be more to life. There also might be some going through a rough patch and feeling hopeless or just might feel like nothing is going their way. They might start to question, “What is the meaning of life?”, “Why are we here?”, and “Is there really a God?”
Most of the time, when I’m sharing my music with others, they ask me, “So where are you trying to go with your music?” And I tell them that my intentions are not to make money, or become famous, but to share my faith through music. Some people say, “That’s a good thing to do,” but in reality, I’m not trying to be ‘good,’ I’m just trying to fulfill God’s purpose for my life. “God has given each of you some special abilities: Be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings (1 Peter 4:10).” You can’t be ‘good’ enough to get into heaven. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).” This means that if you sin even once, you are separated from God and the only way to be redeemed is to put your trust in Jesus for salvation.
Other times, when I tell people that my intentions aren’t to make money, they look at me like I’m speaking another language. Their expressions say, “Why are you wasting your time making music if you don’t want to become rich and famous?” That’s why I have to lay it out for them because they don’t understand me. Most people have heard of Jesus, but not everyone knows his promises and the everlasting joy he can bring to the lives of those who trust in Him. Jesus promises salvation of sins to anyone who believes in Him. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn’t send his son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him (John 3:16-17).”
Jesus is the light of the world (John 9:5). If you’re looking for the Light and looking for Truth, don’t follow the path of others who focus their interests on the ways of the world (money, women, status, etc.). It might look fun, but ‘satan disguises himself as an angel of light’ (2 Corinthians 11:14) and you might be deceived into destruction. Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate, and broad is the road, that leads to destruction, and many enter through it (Matthew 7:13).” Instead of choosing the ‘wide gate’ (the gate that many get deceived into following), choose the narrow gate, the one that leads to life. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2).”

“Back on you baby”
I’m not sure what the vocal sample in the song actually says, but I’ve always imagined the voice saying, “back on you baby,” or “work on you baby.” There are many people who have heard the good news of Jesus, but end up following their own desires instead of Him. Sometimes it takes a monumental life event to shake us up and make us realize we are nothing without God. Luckily, I didn’t have to reach rock bottom to recognize that I needed Him in my life. Although my testimony isn’t as exciting as some, here is my story:
I haven’t always followed God like I should, but I’ve always had faith that He exists. There was a point in my life where I was caught up in trying to please others instead of trying to please God. The music I was making didn’t reflect my beliefs and my heart was not completely set on the things of God. Although I had a faith, I never acted on it. I would only read the Bible sparingly (maybe a couple of passages every once in a while) and my actions didn’t fully reflect those of a true Christian. This all changed when my sister was going through a difficult time in her life and I saw how she was really growing in a relationship with God. I wanted the same thing for myself so I also started to read the Bible everyday and really tried to comprehend what it was saying. Within the next couple of years, as my faith and relationship with Christ grew, I noticed that a strong compassion and eagerness to help others was igniting inside of me. I also noticed that the motive wasn’t driven by a desire for others to like me or so that I would be seen as a ‘good’ person…It was because of this new God-given compassion I now had for others. “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).” No matter what I’m going through, I now have unceasing joy in my life that no one can take from me. Just as Paul said in Philippians 4:12-13, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
It doesn’t matter what kind of past you have or what kind of life you’re living right now. God’s love is unfailing. He will always forgive you as long as you’re willing to change and put your trust in Christ alone for salvation. It’s never too late to ‘work on you’ and get back on God. The parable of the prodigal son is the perfect example (Luke 15:10-32).

No matter what happens in my life, I will continue to praise Jesus and give all the glory to Him for everything I do. He has always comforted me during life’s trials and because of this, there is nothing that can extinguish my relationship with God. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matthew 11: 28-30).”
God stays faithful to us despite how unfaithful we are to Him. Deuteronomy 4:31 says - “For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers.”
The first covenant God made was with Abraham1. Because of Abraham’s great faith, God promised to make his descendents innumerable. In Genesis 15:5-6, God says, “Look up at the sky and count the stars, if indeed you can count them. So shall your offspring be.” Later in time, God also made a covenant with David2, “When your days are over, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom (2 Samuel 6:12-14, 16).” God kept his promise to David even when David’s descendents ‘did what was evil in the sight of the Lord3’. One example was Manasseh, a ruler of Israel and descendent of David. He worshiped idols, burned his son as an offering and ‘used fortune-telling and omens and sorcery and dealt with mediums and with necromancers4’. The deeds of David’s descendants were ‘more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel5’. Nevertheless, God kept His promises and from David’s line came Jesus, who offers God’s greatest gift to mankind.
1 Abraham came generations after Adam (the first man on earth) and is known as the father of many nations. He believed God’s promises even though his wife was past child-bearing age, and this is why God rewarded him. Abraham was well known for his faith, as well the works he did for God in the book of Genesis. After Abraham was Isaac, Jacob, then later, David and eventually, Jesus.
2 David grew up as a shepherd then God called him to become king of Israel after Saul. Saul was jealous of David and tried to kill him many times. David displayed remarkable trust in God even when the situations seemed hopeless.

“Everyday you’re there with me,

Whoever puts their full trust in God can stand confident because He protects His faithful followers with the strength of a lion.1 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you" (Deuteronomy 31:5-6).
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)
In Matthew 7:26, Jesus says, “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into bars, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.Are you not of more value than they?” There is no reason to worry or be anxious in life because if God is with you, He will take care of your needs. In this verse, Jesus is specifically talking about food and clothing, but the lesson can be applied to every other aspect in life. Just do your part by staying faithful2 to God and he will surely guard you.

What’s the bread of life? Bread can fill your stomach, but the bread of life fills your spirit. Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, he who believes in me will never be thirsty (John 6:35).” If you are feeling empty, don’t try to fill that emptiness with earthly desires such as money, cars, women, status, power, etc. That’s like eating candy in place of a full meal when you’re starving. It might give you a ‘quick fix’, but shortly after, you will still be hungry and your stomach will be hurting from all the sugar. Trying to fill your emptiness with earthy desires will only cause you to feel even more depressed. “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; But the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life (John 4:14).”
Let the light of Christ shine through you. When you accept Jesus as your savior and start actively growing in faith, God begins to change you. A genuine compassion for others is ignited. “As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples (John 13:34-35).” Also, in the book of James, the importance of having a genuine faith and to be not only ‘hearers’ of the Word, but also ‘doers’ of the Word is emphasized (James 2:14-26 & James 1:22). James says that ‘even the demons believe’ and also that ‘faith apart from works is dead.’ Some religious groups use this verse to justify their beliefs that you must perform good deeds to be saved, but I can assure you this isn’t what James believed. He is asking us a question: “What’s the point of having faith in Christ if you aren’t acting on it? He is not saying that you must perform works to be saved. As a result of having an active and genuine faith in Jesus Christ as the savior of the world, you will be a ‘doer’ of the Word by helping others find the Truth.
Do you hear Him when He calls you? Sometimes God gives us an idea or makes us realize a certain action that we’re doing is displeasing to Him. We might tend to ignore it and say, “That’s not really God speaking to me, it’s just me thinking.” But as you grow in a relationship with Him, you become more sensitive to His plans for your life and also more sensitive to His convictions of your sin. But the great thing about God is that His love is unconditional. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, or what kind of mess you’re currently caught up in…He still loves you and wants you to turn from your sin and grow in a relationship with Him. Stay close to God by studying the Bible on your own, as well as with other believers and attend church & pray frequently1. When you willingly and humbly seek God, you will find. “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13).”

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).” Although we constantly fail Him, His love for all humans never changes and never will change. God’s arms are wide open just waiting for those who don’t know Him to acknowledge who He is and to call upon His great name for salvation. “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).” We don’t deserve salvation, but because of God’s grace, we are given a chance to accept Him1. With my faith in Christ, I can stand confident even when the oceans are raging. When life’s waves are tossing me around, as long as I keep my faith in Jesus and praise Him in the storm, I don’t have to be afraid.
No amount of sin can separate anyone from the love of God. He is always willing to forgive as long as you are willing to repent and receive Jesus with an open heart. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).”
