The Wrath of God

(Pt. 1) WE HAVE SINNED, BUT THERE IS MERCY

Everyone loves Easter Bunny Jesus, but no one likes the reality that, in the Scriptures, we visibly see the wrath of God towards sin and rebellion against Him.  All of us have fallen short and deserve eternal separation from God for our sins.

Romans 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
John 3:36 "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

Many times, we try to justify our sin or attempt to make it seem less offensive than it really is.  Here's an example: We tell 'little white lies,' but don't consider ourselves 'liars'.  We're often apathetic about the offense of our sin before God.  Two things that show God's seriousness about sin are: 1. The reality of hell, 2. The slaughter of Jesus on the cross.  Even though we all deserve eternal punishment, God gave us something we don’t deserve: MERCY.  He sent His son (Jesus) to die for all our wrong-doings so that we would be able to spend eternal life with Him.

(Pt. 2) SIN MUST BE PUNISHED

A common argument I hear is, "A God of love wouldn't send people to hell."  If you give Jesus a makeover and separate God’s wrath from His love, you no longer have the message of Christianity anymore.  God’s love and mercy are inseparably linked to His wrath.  Sin infects us and causes carnage in our lives.  Because God loves us, he does not tolerate sinful actions which lead to destruction.  Just as parents discipline their children, God does not overlook our sins.  If God overlooked our sins, He would not only a bad Father, but also an unjust judge.

(Pt. 3) JESUS WILL RETURN

Jesus is coming again one day.  The first time he walked this earth, Jesus did not come to judge the world, but to save it (John 12:47)."   When He returns (2nd coming), it will NOT be to extend mercy.  The wrath of God is being stored up against those who deny Him (Romans 2:5).

"From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.  On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords." (Revelation 19:15-16)

You will receive no judgement from me for believing differently, but the Bible does teach that Jesus is the only way to God and those who reject this message will obtain what we all deserve for sinning; separation from God for eternity.  Make a choice to follow Jesus while the offer is still on the table!
